FRIDAY: The United Heart God Is Looking For

BIG IDEA:  A life sent by Jesus will strive to back up words with action.

Psalm 86:6-12 “Give ear, O LORD, to my prayer; listen to my plea for grace. In the day of my trouble I call upon you, for you answer me. There is none like you among the gods, O Lord, nor are there any works like yours. All the nations you have made shall come and worship before you, O Lord, and shall glorify your name. For you are great and do wondrous things; you alone are God. Teach me your way, O LORD, that I may walk in your truth; unite my heart to fear your name. I give thanks to you, O Lord my God, with my whole heart, and I will glorify your name forever.”

1 John 2:6 “whoever says he abides in him ought to walk in the same way in which he walked.”

The memory verse at the heart of this message is a prayer -- and it is one worth making your own. The psalmist asks God to teach him His ways and to unite his heart. A divided heart is one that wants to honor God publicly while living differently in private. A united heart is one where the person you are in public and the person you are behind closed doors are the same. This kind of integrity is not achieved through willpower alone. It is the result of consistently asking God to shape and align your heart to His. The life sent by Jesus backs up words with action -- and it starts here, in this prayer.

Reflection Question: Is the person you are in private consistent with the person you present to the world? Where is your heart most divided?

Practical Application: Memorize Psalm 86:11 this week. Pray it each morning as a genuine request, asking God to teach you His ways and to unite your heart around reverence for His name.

MEMORY VERSE for the Week:

Psalm 86:11 “Teach me your way, O LORD, that I may walk in your truth; unite my heart to fear your name.”
