SATURDAY: Saying Yes Before It Makes Sense

BIG IDEA: You could be in the right place with the right people doing all the right things and still be WRONG with God.

Reading:

Jonah 2:2-7

“Then Jonah prayed to the Lord his God from the belly of the fish, saying, “I called out to the Lord, out of my distress, and he answered me; out of the belly of Sheol I cried, and you heard my voice. For you cast me into the deep, into the heart of the seas, and the flood surrounded me; all your breakers and your waves passed over me. Then I said, ‘I am driven away from your sight; yet I shall again look upon your holy temple.’ The waters closed in over me to take my life; the deep surrounded me; weeds were wrapped about my head. To the roots of the mountains I went down, to the land whose bars closed upon me forever. Yet you brought up my life from the pit, O Lord my God. When my life was fainting away, I remembered the Lord, and my prayer came to you, into your holy temple.”

Romans 8:28-31

“And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose. For those whom he foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son, in order that he might be the firstborn among many brothers. And those whom he predestined he also called, and those whom he called he also justified, and those whom he justified he also glorified. What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us?”

Devotional:

In the dark, cramped belly of the fish, Jonah finally surrendered. He didn’t wait until he was back on dry land to trust God—he worshiped while still in the depths.

“Yet you brought up my life from the pit, O Lord my God.” Jonah’s circumstances hadn’t changed yet, but his heart had. That’s often where real transformation happens: not when the storm ends, but when you choose to say “yes” to God in the middle of it.

Sometimes God’s goodness feels like a storm, a swallowed prophet, or a bison charging you down. It doesn’t always feel kind, but it is always loving. He is not just trying to use you—He is pursuing you as His son or daughter. The question is not whether God is speaking, but whether you will finally stop running and agree with Him.

Saying “yes” before it all makes sense is where peace and purpose begin.
