Week 4: God's Redemptive Plan in Messy Situations
Reading: Romans 8:28-39
Devotional: The story of David and Absalom is filled with human failure, yet God's redemptive purposes still shine through. Today's passage reminds us that God works for good in all circumstances for those who love Him. Even after Absalom set Joab’s barley fields on fire, God was able to make something beautiful out of it. He got Joab’s attention. And Joab connected Absalom to the king. We all experience “burning barley fields” in our lives. None of us enjoy trials. But through those trials, the Holy Spirit is there to connect us to the King of Kings!!
Reflect on a challenging situation in your life that you are going through right now. How might God be working, even if you can't see it yet?
Declare Romans 8:28 again aloud. Remember that nothing can separate us from God's love. Take comfort in knowing that even in your messiest moments, God is present and active.
Pray for eyes to see God's hand at work and for trust in His ultimate goodness.
Prayer: Heavenly Father, I thank you that you are never surprised or caught off guard by our trials. And even when this world feels like the gates of hell rage against us, you are right there beside us to lead us, guide us, and to love us. Help me to walk with you and to see things the way that You see them instead of processing these struggles in a hopeless way like the rest of the world.
