Thursday: Forgiveness and Consequences: Navigating Sin's Aftermath

Week 5: Facing Betrayal with Grace

Theme: Betrayal in the lives of David and Jesus.

Scripture Reading: Psalm 41:4-9 and John 13:18

Devotional: Read Psalm 41:4-9 and John 13:18. Consider how both David and Jesus handled betrayal. What do these examples teach us about responding to betrayal with grace? Now think about situations when you have been betrayed. It is much easier to encourage others to offer grace when it can be much more difficult to offer it up ourselves. But we must remember that BITTERNESS BREEDS but FORGIVENESS FREES.

Reflection Question: How do you usually react when you feel betrayed? How might you respond differently in light of David’s and Jesus’ examples?

Prayer and Action: Only by the power of the Holy Spirit can we demonstrate grace when we have been betrayed.  Pray for the ability to trust God amid betrayal and to respond with grace and integrity.  Then, apply grace and forgiveness to the person that betrayed you.  It will allow your pain to heal and take a spiritual and emotional weight off of your shoulders that you were never meant to carry.
