Tuesday: The Gateway of Gratitude

Reading: 1 Thessalonians 5:16–18 (ESV) 16 Rejoice always, 17 pray without ceasing, 18 give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.

Devotional: Gratitude is the antidote to the crumbl cycle. When Israel stopped giving thanks, their hearts darkened, their minds wandered, and they became entitled. An ungrateful heart opens the door to grumpiness, pride, and spiritual blindness. Paul commands us to give thanks in all circumstances—not for everything, but in everything. This isn't toxic positivity; it's choosing to recognize God's faithfulness even in difficulty. Gratitude reorients our perspective from what we lack to what we've been given. It shifts focus from our problems to God's presence. Today, list three specific things you're grateful for. Let thanksgiving become your default posture, protecting your heart from the darkness that comes with entitlement and complaint.

Reflection: How do you normally respond when things don’t go your way—complaint, comparison, or gratitude? Look back over the last week: would someone listening to your words say you’re more grateful or more entitled? How might consistent thanksgiving change the atmosphere of your home, workplace, or friendships?

Response: Start a simple gratitude list. Write down at least three things you’re thankful for this morning, and add three more tonight before bed. For each item, stop and actually thank God out loud for it.
