Wednesday: Finishing Well Matters Most

Reading: 2 Timothy 4:6–8 (ESV)“6 For I am already being poured out as a drink offering, and the time of my departure has come.7 I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.8 Henceforth there is laid up for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, will award to me on that day, and not only to me but also to all who have loved his appearing.”

Hebrews 12:1–2 (ESV)“1 Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us also lay aside every weight, and sin which clings so closely, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us,2 looking to Jesus, the founder and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is seated at the right hand of the throne of God.”

Devotional: Uzziah reigned fifty-two years—one of Judah's longest-serving kings. He accomplished much, enjoyed prosperity, and honored God for decades. Yet his legacy is forever marked by how he ended: isolated, leprous, and disgraced because pride corrupted his final years. The Christian life is not a sprint but a marathon, and crossing the finish line with faith intact matters more than how impressively we started. Paul understood this, declaring at life's end that he had fought the good fight and finished the race.

Reflection: How are you running today? Are you maintaining spiritual disciplines that keep pride at bay? Are you surrounding yourself with people who speak truth into your life, as Uzziah had prophets but refused their counsel? Don't let today's success become tomorrow's downfall. Stay humble, stay accountable, and keep your eyes fixed on Jesus, the author and perfecter of your faith.

Response: Choose one “endurance” practice to strengthen this week (daily Scripture, prayer time, weekly gathering with believers, or accountability). Put it on your calendar for the next seven days and treat it as a non‑negotiable appointment with God.
