Week 11: Confession and Repentance
BIG IDEA: A loving God will slow you down and even allow suffering so that you will do things the right way with the right heart.
Scripture: "Whoever conceals his transgressions will not prosper, but he who confesses and forsakes them will obtain mercy." - Proverbs 28:13
Reflection: Sometimes God may not answer our prayers until we deal with the sin in our lives. When Adam and Eve sinned, they were evicted from the garden. The reason: You can’t have sin in a perfect paradise. And for God to allow a flaw in eternity would mean we would have to deal with our flaws and sins forever with no end. Instead of God allowing sin in the Garden; and instead of God allowing sin to enter heaven, He made a BETTER WAY. Jesus died, and His blood could fix all of our sins and flaws eternally. Not only do we need the blood of Jesus to cover our eternal sins, we also need the blood of Jesus and the grace of Jesus to do work on our unconfessed sins on this side of eternity. Do you have a sin that needs to be confessed? Confess it to Him today, and He is FAITHFUL and JUST to forgive. Is there a sin you need to confess to another person? Come to them in humility and seek restoration. It might be humbling and even painful in the short-term, but it can bring FREEDOM in the long-term.
Application: Is there something you need to confess to God or others today? Take that step.
Devotional Jam for the Day: “Lord I Need You” by Matt Maher or “Nothing Else” by Cody Carnes
Prayer: Father, give me the humility to confess my sins and the strength to truly repent.
