Week 5: Walking in the Freedom of Surrender
Theme: Trusting in God’s plan and timing.
Scripture Reading: Psalm 3:1-8; Philippians 4:6-7
Devotional: When things start going wrong, our anxiety often has a way of taking over. Anxiety can manifest itself in many ways. God always gives us the option to trust in Him and go to him in prayer first. In Philippians we are called to “be anxious for nothing… But by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, make our requests made known unto God.” Instead of anxiety and control, we have the opportunity to think, breathe, live, and grow by faith. Reflect on David's response to Absalom’s rebellion. Instead of grasping for control, David surrendered to God’s will. So did Jesus when Judas betrayed Him.
Reflection Question: In what ways are you grasping for control in your life instead of surrendering to God? How can you practice walking in full surrender today?
Prayer and Action: Ask God to help you identify when your next trial or challenge arrives. Instead of “springing into action” or “overthinking”, go to the Lord FIRST. PRAY FIRST. Commit to surrendering your plans and fears to God, trusting in His provision and timing. Scripture then tells us “the God of peace will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.”
