SATURDAY: Guarding Your Lampstand

Reading:
Matthew 5:14-16
“You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden. Nor do people light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a stand, and it gives light to all in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.”
Philippians 2:14-16
“Do all things without grumbling or disputing, that you may be blameless and innocent, children of God without blemish in the midst of a crooked and twisted generation, among whom you shine as lights in the world, holding fast to the word of life, so that in the day of Christ I may be proud that I did not run in vain or labor in vain.”
Devotional:
Jesus gives a sobering warning: “I will remove your lampstand from its place—unless you repent.” The lampstand represents a church’s witness—its light in a dark world. Ephesus had truth, activity, and perseverance, yet risked losing its influence because love for Christ had cooled.
A loveless church may still function, but its light grows dim. The same is true personally. When love for Jesus fades, joy drains from service, courage weakens in witness, and our lives reflect more of self than of Christ. Guarding your “lampstand” means guarding your love for Him. Your greatest impact for the Gospel will never come from mere busyness, but from a heart captivated by Christ.
Reflection:
Today, ask: Is my life shining clearly for Jesus, or has my light dimmed through neglect of my first love?
Response:
Bring that honestly to Him, and ask the Spirit to rekindle both your love and your witness, so that others see not just your works—but your Savior.
