SATURDAY: Using Our Freedom for God's Purposes

Reading:
Galatians 5:13-14
“For you were called to freedom, brothers. Only do not use your freedom as an opportunity for the flesh, but through love serve one another. For the whole law is fulfilled in one word: “You shall love your neighbor as yourself.”
Devotional:
Paul teaches that we were called to freedom—but not to use that freedom for ourselves.
Instead, we are to serve one another in love. As Americans, we live in a rare place and time in history—a 4% chance of being here, in the top 95% of global wealth and opportunity. That blessing is not an accident, and it is not just for comfort. It is a stewardship.
Our founders understood that freedom only flourishes under God. They fasted, prayed, and openly acknowledged that unless the Lord built the house, they labored in vain. Today, many use freedom to run from God rather than toward Him, to indulge the flesh rather than advance the gospel. The same can happen in our own lives—prosperity can make us prayerless, distracted, and spiritually dull.
Reflection:
Ask yourself: Am I using my freedom mainly for my comfort, or for God’s kingdom? Am I more passionate about my preferences than about God’s purposes?

Take practical steps today:
List three specific freedoms or resources you enjoy (time, money, education, influence, citizenship, etc.).
Next to each one, write one concrete way you will use it this week to serve others and point them to Christ (encouraging a coworker, supporting a ministry, speaking truth graciously, inviting someone to church).
