THURSDAY: Fields Ripe for Harvest

When we align our thinking with a kingdom mindset, we truly begin to connect to God’s greater purpose.

Reading: John 4:31-38; Matthew 9:35-38

John 4:31-38

“Meanwhile the disciples were urging him, saying, “Rabbi, eat.” But he said to them, “I have food to eat that you do not know about.” So the disciples said to one another, “Has anyone brought him something to eat?” Jesus said to them, “My food is to do the will of him who sent me and to accomplish his work. Do you not say, ‘There are yet four months, then comes the harvest’? Look, I tell you, lift up your eyes, and see that the fields are white for harvest. Already the one who reaps is receiving wages and gathering fruit for eternal life, so that sower and reaper may rejoice together. For here the saying holds true, ‘One sows and another reaps.’ I sent you to reap that for which you did not labor. Others have labored, and you have entered into their labor.”

Matthew 9:35-38

“And Jesus went throughout all the cities and villages, teaching in their synagogues and proclaiming the gospel of the kingdom and healing every disease and every affliction. When he saw the crowds, he had compassion for them, because they were harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd. Then he said to his disciples, “The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few; therefore pray earnestly to the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into his harvest.”

Devotional:

Jesus looked at people and saw fields ripe for harvest. When He gazed upon lost Jerusalem, He didn't condemn—He wept. This is Kingdom vision: seeing people as God sees them, recognizing their desperate need for hope, help, and rescue.

You don't need to be a pastor or missionary to participate in Kingdom work. You're already positioned in a field—your workplace, neighborhood, school, or community. You're the expert there. You know the people; they know you. God has strategically placed you to bring the good news of His Kingdom to your sphere of influence.
