Reading: Deuteronomy 28:1-2 ““And if you faithfully obey the voice of the Lord your God, being careful to do all his commandments that I command you today, the Lord your God will set you high above all the nations of the earth. And all these blessings shall come upon you and overtake you, if you obey the voice of the Lord your God.”
Hebrews 12:5-11 “And have you forgotten the exhortation that addresses you as sons? “My son, do not regard lightly the discipline of the Lord, nor be weary when reproved by him. For the Lord disciplines the one he loves, and chastises every son whom he receives.” It is for discipline that you have to endure. God is treating you as sons. For what son is there whom his father does not discipline? If you are left without discipline, in which all have participated, then you are illegitimate children and not sons. Besides this, we have had earthly fathers who disciplined us and we respected them. Shall we not much more be subject to the Father of spirits and live? For they disciplined us for a short time as it seemed best to them, but he disciplines us for our good, that we may share his holiness. For the moment all discipline seems painful rather than pleasant, but later it yields the peaceful fruit of righteousness to those who have been trained by it.”
Devotional: God allowed Israel and Judah to suffer under wicked kings because they rejected Him. This wasn't divine cruelty—it was consequence meeting choice. God established clear terms: obey and be blessed, or reject Him and experience curses. When we persistently choose our way over God's way, He sometimes allows suffering to become His megaphone, calling us back. America's current chaos isn't random—it reflects our collective rejection of God. But judgment always includes invitation.
Reflection: Suffering can either harden hearts or humble them. Which will you choose? God disciplines those He loves, not to destroy but to restore.
Response: If you're experiencing consequences today, don't waste your suffering. Let it drive you back to God. He's extending His hand one more time. Choose His way. Choose life. Choose blessing. The adventure you pick today determines your tomorrow.
