Scripture from the Message: 1 Kings 22:34 (ESV) - "But a certain man drew his bow at random and struck the king of Israel between the scale armor and the breastplate. Therefore he said to the driver of his chariot, 'Turn around and carry me out of the battle, for I am wounded.'"
Romans 12:3 (ESV) - "For by the grace given to me I say to everyone among you not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think, but to think with sober judgment, each according to the measure of faith that God has assigned."
Despite Ahab’s attempts to control his fate, a random arrow finds its mark, leading to his downfall. His pride, combined with a false sense of security, could not protect him from the consequences of his choices. Pride often blinds us to reality, leaving us vulnerable to the unexpected that life, or God, might throw our way.
In Romans, Paul advises us to think of ourselves with sober judgment, acknowledging our limitations and dependence on God. Pride offers temporary confidence but ultimately leaves us exposed and unprepared. Embracing humility aligns us with God’s purpose and protection.
Jesus extends grace to those who humble themselves before Him. When pride is set aside, He welcomes us into His protective care, offering direction and strength for life’s challenges. He invites us to trust not in our strength but in His omniscience.
Action Step:
Reflect on a time when your own pride led you into difficulty. Consider how a humble approach might have changed the outcome. Seek to apply this humility to current situations you face.
Prayer:
Lord, I pray that you knock down the old, prideful me. Help me to stand for you as a humble man or woman of God. Help me to turn FROM what is wrong and turn TOWARD what is Your Will. In Jesus name, Amen.
