Monday: Take the Next Right Step

The remedy to a DISTRACTED LIFE is to take the NEXT RIGHT STEP with God.

Scripture Reading:  Psalm 119:104-106 (NIV)  

"I gain understanding from your precepts; therefore I hate every wrong path. Your word is a lamp for my feet, a light on my path. I have taken an oath and confirmed it, that I will follow your righteous laws."

In Psalm 119, the psalmist expresses the richness and depth of God's Word as a guiding force in life. Understanding God's precepts drives a disdain for wrong paths, emphasizing the importance of discerning right from wrong. The psalmist relies on God's Word as a metaphorical lamp, which provides guidance and clarity, illuminating the next steps to take in a complex and often dark world.

The oath and confirmation indicate a deep commitment to living according to God's righteous laws. This speaks to the conscious choice and deliberate action required in spiritual growth. The revelation in these verses is the ongoing, dynamic interaction with God's truth that continually guides and shapes the psalmist's journey.

Through Jesus, we see the perfect embodiment of living according to God's guidance. The Holy Spirit continues this guidance in our lives, offering wisdom and discernment much like the lamp and light of the psalmist's experience. In times of uncertainty, we can depend on the Holy Spirit to illuminate the next steps just when we need them, assuring us that even without knowing the whole path, we aren't walking it alone.

Take time today to identify one area in your life where you feel distracted or uncertain. Prayerfully seek guidance through Scripture and listen for the Holy Spirit’s prompting to discern your next right step.

Dear Lord, please guide my steps and light my way today. It can be difficult to see what to do next sometimes. But with your Presence and the power of Your Word, I am equipped with everything that I need to take the right next step.  Thank you for your presence and guidance. Amen.
