Monday: The Foundation of Wisdom

BIG IDEA:  The greatest thing you could ever do is to ask God for wisdom and follow through.

Scripture: 1 Kings 3:9 - "Give your servant therefore an understanding mind to govern your people, that I may discern between good and evil, for who is able to govern this your great people?"

I had a mentor once tell me that “humility is a lightning rod for the Holy Spirit.” In other words, God blesses and does great work through people who are humble.  Solomon's request for wisdom is a profound example of humility and recognition of his own limitations. Standing before God, he acknowledges his youth and inexperience, asking for an understanding mind. Solomon's plea is not just for personal gain but for the ability to effectively lead God's people. This is a pivotal moment where Solomon's heart aligns with God's purposes, setting the foundation for his future reign. This teaches us the importance of seeking divine wisdom over earthly desires, demonstrating that true leadership stems from recognizing our need for God's guidance.

As we reflect on this verse, let us be reminded that like Solomon, we are called to seek wisdom to navigate the complexities of life. Wisdom goes beyond mere knowledge—it is the application of understanding in everyday decisions, creating ripple effects that influence those around us. By aligning our hearts with God, just as Solomon did, we become vessels through which His wisdom flows into the world.

Action Step: Take a moment to identify an area in your life where you need wisdom. (relationships, family, finances, career, education, etc.) Write it down and place it somewhere you will see daily as a reminder to seek God’s guidance in this matter.

Prayer:  Lord, I come before You acknowledging my need for Your wisdom. Help me to seek Your understanding in all areas of my life, trusting that You will guide me every step of the way. Grant me the courage to follow through with the wisdom You provide. Amen.
