MONDAY: The Joy of Being Known

Reading:

Revelation 2:1-3

“To the angel of the church in Ephesus write: ‘The words of him who holds the seven stars in his right hand, who walks among the seven golden lampstands. “‘I know your works, your toil and your patient endurance, and how you cannot bear with those who are evil, but have tested those who call themselves apostles and are not, and found them to be false. I know you are enduring patiently and bearing up for my name’s sake, and you have not grown weary.”

Psalm 139:1-6

‭“O Lord, you have searched me and known me! You know when I sit down and when I rise up; you discern my thoughts from afar. You search out my path and my lying down and are acquainted with all my ways. Even before a word is on my tongue, behold, O Lord, you know it altogether. You hem me in, behind and before, and lay your hand upon me. Such knowledge is too wonderful for me; it is high; I cannot attain it.”

Devotional:

Jesus begins His message to Ephesus with powerful words: "I know your works." Before correction comes recognition. Christ sees every sacrifice you make, every faithful moment, every time you stand for truth when it costs you something. He knows the late nights serving, the prayers offered in secret, the battles fought against discouragement.

This knowledge should bring comfort—you are not unseen or unappreciated by your Savior. Yet this same intimate knowledge means He also sees when our hearts grow cold.

Reflection:

Today, rest in being fully known by Christ.

Let His awareness of your faithfulness encourage you, and let His awareness of your heart's condition invite honest examination.
