Saturday: Blessing and Curse: Choosing Your Path

Reading: Deuteronomy 30:15-20 ““See, I have set before you today life and good, death and evil. If you obey the commandments of the Lord your God that I command you today, by loving the Lord your God, by walking in his ways, and by keeping his commandments and his statutes and his rules, then you shall live and multiply, and the Lord your God will bless you in the land that you are entering to take possession of it. But if your heart turns away, and you will not hear, but are drawn away to worship other gods and serve them, I declare to you today, that you shall surely perish. You shall not live long in the land that you are going over the Jordan to enter and possess. I call heaven and earth to witness against you today, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and curse. Therefore choose life, that you and your offspring may live, loving the Lord your God, obeying his voice and holding fast to him, for he is your life and length of days, that you may dwell in the land that the Lord swore to your fathers, to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob, to give them.””
Galatians 6:7-9 “Do not be deceived: God is not mocked, for whatever one sows, that will he also reap. For the one who sows to his own flesh will from the flesh reap corruption, but the one who sows to the Spirit will from the Spirit reap eternal life. And let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up.”
Devotional: All through Scripture, God sets before His people a clear choice: blessing or curse, life or death, obedience or rebellion. In the days of Ahab, Jezebel, Joram, and Ahaziah, the leaders chose idolatry and immorality—and the curse eventually caught up with them. In Christ, the ultimate judgment has been poured out on Jesus instead of us, but the principle of sowing and reaping still remains in our daily lives. When we walk in surrender and obedience, we experience the blessing of God’s presence, guidance, and peace. When we persist in defiance, we invite discipline, dryness, and painful consequences. There is no neutral ground: we are either moving toward God or away from Him.
Reflection: Today, God again sets a choice before you—not just for salvation, but for how you will live as a saved person. Will you sow to the flesh or to the Spirit? Will you drift with culture’s current, or walk in step with the Holy Spirit? Blessing follows those who receive and respond to God; curse follows those who reject and resist Him. You may not see the harvest immediately, but you can be certain: God will fulfill His word. So “choose life,” daily, by choosing Christ and His ways.
Response: Identify one specific area where you need to “choose life” and be obedient to the Spirit (for example: media you consume, a relationship pattern, a habit, or how you use your time). Decide one practical change you will make this week, write it down, and tell one trusted person who can pray for you and check in.
