Saturday: Rebuilding with Humility

Scripture from the Message:  1 Kings 22:41-44 (ESV) - "Jehoshaphat the son of Asa began to reign over Judah... He did not turn aside from it, doing what was right in the sight of the Lord."

Colossians 3:12 (ESV) - "Put on then, as God's chosen ones, holy and beloved, compassionate hearts, kindness, humility, meekness, and patience."

Jehoshaphat….what a cool name and what an even cooler guy!!!!!  His reign is marked by humility and a commitment to God’s ways, showing how a humble spirit can lead to positive and lasting change. Despite not removing the high places, his efforts were sincere in bringing Judah closer to God. This highlights that progress, not perfection, is what God desires from us.

Paul’s letter to the Colossians encourages us to clothe ourselves with virtues like humility and compassion. Living with these qualities allows us to positively influence our surroundings, building communities that reflect God’s love and truth.

Jesus provides the ultimate model of a humble leader. By following His example, we reshape our lives, focusing on compassion and humility, which leads to personal and communal transformation. In our weakness, He is strong.

Action Step:

Choose one virtue from Colossians 3:12 to actively cultivate in your life this week. Make a conscious effort each day to embody this characteristic in your interactions and decisions.

Prayer:

Jesus, as Jehoshapat demonstrated a heart toward You, help me to continue to grow in my faith. And in a similar way that You worked in this king’s life, I pray that You would lead mine. And I ask that You help me to always point others to YOU!!  In Your name, Amen.
