BIG IDEA: The life you build determines who lives there.
Scripture: 1 Kings 6:38 – “And in the eleventh year, in the month of Bul, the house was finished in all its parts, according to all its specifications. He was seven years in building it.”
When Solomon finished the Temple after seven years, it was more than just a construction project completed—it was a symbol of completion. Seven, the biblical number of perfection and fulfillment, stood as a reminder that God keeps His promises and desires to dwell with His people. But this moment was really pointing forward. A thousand years later, on a hill outside Jerusalem, Jesus declared another kind of completion. John 19:30 tells us His last words on the cross: “It is finished.” At that very moment, the veil in the Temple—the curtain separating the Holy of Holies from the people—was torn in two from top to bottom (Matthew 27:51). The barrier was gone. God’s Spirit would no longer be confined to a building. His presence would now live in His people. The Temple Solomon built was a shadow of the greater reality: that in Christ, the work is complete. He has paid the price, defeated sin and death, and opened the way for you to live in His presence forever. Here’s the truth: you don’t have to keep striving to earn God’s approval. You don’t have to keep building on your own strength. Because of Jesus, the work is finished—you are invited to rest in His grace and
live in His Spirit.
Action Step: Today, take a moment to stop striving. Breathe in God’s grace. Write down one area of your life where you’ve been trying to “earn” God’s love or approval, and surrender it to Him. Trust that in Christ, it is finished.
Prayer: Jesus, thank You for declaring “It is finished” on the cross. I rest in Your completed work today. Help me to live in the freedom of knowing that Your Spirit dwells in me, and that I no longer need to strive for what You have already accomplished. Amen.
