Thursday: Boldness in Prayer

BIG IDEA: It's better to be lonely and following God than popular and following the world.

Scripture Reading: James 5:16-18 (ESV)

"Therefore, confess your sins to one another and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person has great power as it is working. Elijah was a man with a nature like ours, and he prayed fervently that it might not rain, and for three years and six months it did not rain on the earth. Then he prayed again, and heaven gave rain, and the earth bore its fruit."

Leonard Ravenhill said, “No man is greater than his prayer life.”

Elijah's prayers demonstrate the power of fervent, righteous prayer. His life teaches us that effective prayers emerge from a place of righteousness and alignment with God's will. It was through prayer that Elijah not only shut the heavens but later opened them again.

Prayer is a connection with God that influences realities and circumstances. Despite feeling alone, Elijah’s persistence in prayer was transformative, bringing about God’s will on earth. Our prayers, too, are powerful and effective when rooted in faith and aligned with God’s purposes.

You are Never Truly Alone: The Holy Spirit intercedes for us in our prayers, empowering them beyond human limitations. He remains our constant guide in conversation with God, making our dialogue with the Father intimate and powerful.

Action Step: Dedicate a specific time today for prayer, focusing on an area where you seek God’s intervention. Pray boldly, believing in the power of prayer rooted in righteousness.

Prayer: God, I thank you for the promises of James 5:16-18!  And thank you for the example of Elijah in Your word.  Help me to go to battle in prayer daily because I can’t afford not to. I need your help, your presence, and your guidance.  Amen.
