Thursday: Escaping God's Judgment Through Christ

Reading: Romans 8:1-4 “There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus. For the law of the Spirit of life has set you free in Christ Jesus from the law of sin and death. For God has done what the law, weakened by the flesh, could not do. By sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh and for sin, he condemned sin in the flesh, in order that the righteous requirement of the law might be fulfilled in us, who walk not according to the flesh but according to the Spirit.”
Romans 5:6-11 “For while we were still weak, at the right time Christ died for the ungodly. For one will scarcely die for a righteous person—though perhaps for a good person one would dare even to die— but God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. Since, therefore, we have now been justified by his blood, much more shall we be saved by him from the wrath of God. For if while we were enemies we were reconciled to God by the death of his Son, much more, now that we are reconciled, shall we be saved by his life. More than that, we also rejoice in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have now received reconciliation.”
Devotional: God's judgment on wickedness is certain and severe, yet His love provides an escape. Because God is just, He must punish sin—but in His mercy, He punished our sin in Jesus Christ. While we were still sinners, Christ died for us. This is the gospel: we cannot earn righteousness through good works, but we receive it as a gift through faith in Jesus. At heaven's gates, our entrance depends not on our performance but on Christ's perfection covering us.
Reflection: Have you received this gift? There is no condemnation for those in Christ Jesus. Today, rest in the assurance that Jesus has taken the curse you deserved and given you the blessing He earned.
Response: Take 5–10 minutes of quiet and simply thank Jesus aloud (or in writing) for specific things He has saved you from—both now and eternally. If you’ve never intentionally trusted Christ, use today to pray and surrender your life to Him.
