Thursday: Josiah’s Reformation

BIG IDEA for the week:: No matter how sincere someone might be in "THEIR TRUTH", it should always be weighed against GOD'S TRUTH.

Scripture: 2 Kings 23:15-17

"Even the altar at Bethel, the high place made by Jeroboam son of Nebat, who had caused Israel to sin—even that altar and high place he demolished. He burned the high place and ground it to powder, and burned the Asherah pole also. Then Josiah looked around, and when he saw the tombs that were there on the hillside, he had the bones removed from them and burned on the altar to defile it, in accordance with the word of the Lord proclaimed by the man of God who foretold these things."

Reflection:

King Josiah’s reign represented a pivotal reform in Israel’s history—a return to God’s truth amidst rampant idolatry and neglect. Despite the elapsed time since the prophecy, Josiah’s actions demonstrated God's faithfulness to His word. His reforms were comprehensive, showing a total departure from the falsehoods that had entrapped Israel for generations.

The physical tearing down of altars symbolizes the spiritual cleansing necessary in every believer's life. As Josiah demolished idols and renewed the covenant, we too must identify and eradicate the idols in our hearts, returning wholeheartedly to God’s truths. These tangible reforms bore witness to a deeper spiritual revival among the people.

Josiah’s determination emphasizes the importance of leadership rooted in God’s Word. It challenges us to be part of similar reformations within our circles, advocating for truth and justice as a reflection of our relationship with God. The world may sway, but the steadfast love of the Lord provides our sure foundation.

Action Step: Identify an "idol" or distraction that has taken priority over God in your life. Choose to eliminate or reduce its influence, replacing it with time in God’s Word or prayer.

Prayer:

Heavenly Father, thank You for leaders like Josiah who remind us of the power of Your truth. Inspire us to enact meaningful change that draws us closer to You. Amen.
