BIG IDEA: Wise and Godly leaders should trust in GOD above PEOPLE and STUFF.
Bible Verse: Matthew 6:19-21 (ESV) - "Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal, but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also."
Reflection and Illustration:
Matthew’s Gospel warns us about putting earthly possessions over God and urging us instead to invest in eternal treasures. Solomon, despite his wisdom and wealth, didn’t recognize the futility of placing trust in material things until the end of his life. In Ecclesiastes, he reflects on the vanity of wealth and excess. This reminds us that true security and fulfillment come from trusting in God, not in what we own or how much we have.
As leaders in our respective areas of influence, we must model a life that trusts in God above all else. When we prioritize God’s kingdom, we invest in lasting treasures that cannot be taken away. Let us examine our lives and identify where our trust truly lies, and make a conscious decision to place our faith in God, our ultimate source of wisdom and provision.
Action Step: Take stock of the areas where you may be placing your trust in material possessions or human relationships. What steps can you take to start shifting your trust fully to God?
Prayer: Heavenly Father, forgive me for the times I've placed my trust in the wrong things. Help me to set my heart on You and Your eternal promises. Redirect my focus from the temporary to the lasting treasures of Your kingdom. Amen.
