Tuesday: Trust in God's Provision

God uses seasons of drought in our lives to teach us dependence on Him.

Scripture Reading: 1 Kings 17:1-4 (NIV)

"Now Elijah the Tishbite, from Tishbe in Gilead, said to Ahab, 'As the Lord, the God of Israel, lives, whom I serve, there will be neither dew nor rain in the next few years except at my word.' Then the word of the Lord came to Elijah: 'Leave here, turn eastward and hide in the Kerith Ravine, east of the Jordan. You will drink from the brook, and I have directed the ravens to supply you with food there.'"

Elijah is introduced as God's prophet during a time of turmoil in Israel. His message of impending drought is both a judgment on the nation's leadership and a call to return to God. God's directive to Elijah to hide in the Kerith Ravine, where ravens would provide for him, underscores the idea that God prepares and provides in unexpected ways during seemingly barren times.

The drought signifies more than a lack of rain; it represents a call to reliance solely on God's provision. Despite the dire circumstances, God assures Elijah that he will be cared for. It’s a vivid reminder that God’s provision transcends natural means, using unconventional sources to sustain His people.

In the New Testament, Jesus teaches us not to worry about our needs, as our Heavenly Father knows what we require. The Holy Spirit empowers us to trust in God's provision, assuring us that even in our modern "droughts," we will be cared for. This practice of dependence frees us from fear, inviting a deeper faith in God's daily care.

Action Step:

Reflect on a current "drought" in your life—be it emotional, financial, or spiritual. Offer this season to God and commit to depending on Him to meet those needs, trusting in His provision.

Prayer:

God, I thank you for always being my Provider.  You have always provided for me. Sometimes it has been in predictable ways. But sometimes it has also been surprising and even miraculous. Help me to remember to lean on You to provide. You Word affirms it, and so does my life. In Jesus name, Amen.
