Wednesday

BIG IDEA: One of the enemy's top distractions is to convince us to build a DIY-god for ourselves.

Scripture: 2 Corinthians 6:14-16

“Do not be unequally yoked with unbelievers. For what partnership has righteousness with lawlessness? Or what fellowship has light with darkness?”

Paul’s admonition to avoid being unequally yoked applies to all forms of binding partnerships, whether in relationships, friendships, or business ventures. These bonds can influence our faith journey significantly. When our closest relationships do not share our values, we risk compromising our walk with God.

In a culture that promotes inclusivity and tolerance as the highest virtues, Paul's warning might seem counter-cultural or even harsh. However, aligning closely with those who share different core values can subtly draw us away from God’s truth. Protecting our hearts and maintaining our spiritual focus requires wisdom and discernment in choosing whom we allow to influence our lives.

Faith in Jesus provides us with the discernment needed to navigate our relationships wisely. Jesus models how to love all people while also setting healthy boundaries that keep our faith intact. Through prayer and guidance from the Holy Spirit, we can form relationships that honor God and strengthen our faith.

ACTION STEP:  Assess your closest relationships. Consider whether they encourage your walk with Jesus and take steps to form more godly connections.

Prayer:

Lord, remind me daily that my relationship with You is the most important one.  There are so many ways that I can get sideways….and one of those ways is to try and find identity and purpose through relationships that don’t build my faith and draw me closer to You. Help me to pursue You. And help me to find the right people, so we can pursue You together.
