Big Idea: God does something FOR US, so that He can work IN US and THROUGH US.

Theme: Unity and Growth in the Church

Scripture: Ephesians 4:13-16

“until we all attain to the unity of the faith and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to mature manhood, to the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ, so that we may no longer be children, tossed to and fro by the waves and carried about by every wind of doctrine, by human cunning, by craftiness in deceitful schemes. Rather, speaking the truth in love, we are to grow up in every way into him who is the head, into Christ, from whom the whole body, joined and held together by every joint with which it is equipped, when each part is working properly, makes the body grow so that it builds itself up in love.”

What happens when a church fulfills Ephesians 4:13-16?

-We become unified.  God gets us all on the same page.  The world is divided. But we aren’t. 

-We look like Jesus.  People see a difference in us.  

-We aren’t jacked up like the world.  

-We are honest and real. We aren’t hiding anything.  We aren’t faking anything. 

-We grow.  We develop further in Christ and hundreds of others are added to the church family.  

A church functions best when grace and the gifts of its members lead to unity and growth. As we serve together, we mature in our faith, becoming more like Christ. This passage reminds us that the church is not static; it’s designed to grow and edify itself in love. Each person plays a crucial role in the health of the church body. Unity does not mean uniformity but rather a harmony of diverse gifts working together toward common goals. This maturity prevents us from being swayed by false teachings or societal pressures and helps us embody the truth in love.

Action Step: Think about how you can contribute to the unity of your church community. Reach out to someone different from you in your congregation and find out how you can pray for or serve them.
