Day 3: Dealing with the Giant of our pride and self-reliance versus full trust in God
BIG IDEA for the week: Even after you slay a giant in your life there will be another one waiting for you.
Passage: 2 Samuel 24:1-4
"Again the anger of the Lord was kindled against Israel, and he incited David against them, saying, “Go, number Israel and Judah.” So the king said to Joab, the commander of the army, who was with him, “Go through all the tribes of Israel, from Dan to Beersheba, and number the people, that I may know the number of the people.” But Joab said to the king, “May the Lord your God add to the people a hundred times as many as they are, while the eyes of my lord the king still see it, but why does my lord the king delight in this thing?” But the king’s word prevailed against Joab and the commanders of the army. So Joab and the commanders of the army went out from the presence of the king to number the people of Israel."*
New Testament Passage: Matthew 6:33
"But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well."
Devotional: Our own self-reliance and pride can present itself as a relentless giant. Trusting in God's provision above our own is essential. Giving to God first demonstrates full trust in him. Giving your day to God first also demonstrates full trust in him. Even after winning one vocation, personal, or financial battle, others may arise. God encourages us to trust Him and prioritize His kingdom first in our work, our relationships, and our money. God is enough. He is our Jehovah Jireh, which means the ultimate provider over our lives in all ways.
Reflection: Assess your current vocational and financial status. Identify areas where trust in God needs growth. Reflect on the freedom found in prioritizing God and others over material wealth, and seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, trusting that all these things shall be added to you.
