Wednesday: The Pitfall of Materialism

BIG IDEA: Wise and Godly leaders that can work as a team and trust in God above stuff will always get what they need.

Scripture Reading:  Matthew 6:19-21 - "Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal, but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven."

Reflection: What part of our lives…… and what part of what we’ve accomplished……and what part of what we own won’t actually matter in 1 year……in 2 years……in 10 years…….in 50 years?  Today is a day to take some inventory on whether we are investing our lives in things that matter or in things that might not even be relevant in a few years.

Material wealth and possessions can be seductive, tempting us to trust in them rather than in God. Jesus' teachings in Matthew 6 warn us against accumulating earthly treasures that can decay and distract us from kingdom values. Solomon, despite his wisdom, struggled with this challenge, accumulating vast resources that led to spiritual compromise. As leaders and believers, our focus should be on eternal investments, shaping our legacy around God’s promises and purposes.

Action Step: Take inventory of your time, your talents, and your treasures. Consider donating items you no longer need to charity and supporting missions or ministry work.
