Friday: The Heart God Desires

Reading: Romans 10:9-13: “If you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart one believes and is justified, and with the mouth one confesses and is saved. For the Scripture says, “Everyone who believes in him will not be put to shame.” For there is no distinction between Jew and Greek; for the same Lord is Lord of all, bestowing his riches on all who call on him. For “everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.””

Galatians 1:10 “For am I now seeking the approval of man, or of God? Or am I trying to please man? If I were still trying to please man, I would not be a servant of Christ.”

After all the warnings, failures, and judgments in Israel’s story, the solution is surprisingly simple and beautifully profound: God wants our hearts. Not our polished performance. Not our self-improvement plan. Our hearts.

“If you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved” (Romans 10:9). Salvation isn’t about checking religious boxes. It’s about surrendering to Jesus as Lord—handing Him the rights to your life, your future, and your identity.

Devotional: Paul asks, “Am I now seeking the approval of man, or of God?” (Galatians 1:10). That’s still the dividing line. We cannot live for the praise of people and the pleasure of God at the same time. God is not asking you to try harder; He is calling you to trust deeper. To stop merely “doing Christian things” and to truly belong to Christ.

Reflection Questions: Is Jesus functionally Lord of your life, or mostly a label you wear?Where do you need to move from performance to surrender?

Response: If you’ve never truly surrendered to Jesus, or if you’ve been going through the motions, you can respond today. Pray something like:

“Jesus, I confess that You are Lord. I believe You died and rose again for me. I turn from my sin and my self-rule, and I surrender my life to You. Take my heart, my will, and my future. I want to live for You alone.” After praying, tell at least one trusted believer about your decision and ask them to walk with you in this new or renewed commitment.
