SATURDAY: Remembering in a Forgetful Culture

Big Idea:
Remembering God for what He’s done and what He’s doing brings the blessing. Forgetting God brings the CRUMBLE.
Reading:
Romans 1:21-25
“For although they knew God, they did not honor him as God or give thanks to him, but they became futile in their thinking, and their foolish hearts were darkened. Claiming to be wise, they became fools, and exchanged the glory of the immortal God for images resembling mortal man and birds and animals and creeping things. Therefore, God gave them up in the lusts of their hearts to impurity, to the dishonoring of their bodies among themselves, because they exchanged the truth about God for a lie and worshiped and served the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed forever! Amen.”
Psalm 103:1-5
“Bless the Lord, O my soul, and all that is within me, bless his holy name! Bless the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits, who forgives all your iniquity, who heals all your diseases, who redeems your life from the pit, who crowns you with steadfast love and mercy, who satisfies you with good so that your youth is renewed like the eagle’s.”
Devotional:
Judah didn't crumble overnight. The CRUMBL CYCLE happened over time. Under kings like Manasseh—whose very name means "he forgets"—the people slowly abandoned God's ways, shed innocent blood, and traded the worship of the living God for lifeless idols. Their personal forgetfulness eventually became national collapse.
Our culture is on a similar path when it celebrates sin, devalues life, and pushes God to the margins. But God's people are called to live different—to remember when others forget.
Reflection:
Remember His benefits. Remember His holiness. Remember His mercy and His justice.
Response:
Read Psalm 103:1-5 slowly and turn each verse into a personal prayer. Ask God to expose any "modern idols" in your life—comfort, success, pleasure, reputation—that are quietly competing with Him.
Then re-center your heart on this truth:
Remembering God for what He’s done and what He’s doing brings the blessing. Forgetting God brings the crumble. Choose to be a person of remembrance in a culture of amnesia.
