Reading: John 20:15-18; John 10:3-4, 27-28

John 20:15-18 “Jesus said to her, “Woman, why are you weeping? Whom are you seeking?” Supposing him to be the gardener, she said to him, “Sir, if you have carried him away, tell me where you have laid him, and I will take him away.” Jesus said to her, “Mary.” She turned and said to him in Aramaic, “Rabboni!” (which means Teacher). Jesus said to her, “Do not cling to me, for I have not yet ascended to the Father; but go to my brothers and say to them, ‘I am ascending to my Father and your Father, to my God and your God.’” Mary Magdalene went and announced to the disciples, “I have seen the Lord”—and that he had said these things to her.”

John 10:3-4 “To him the gatekeeper opens. The sheep hear his voice, and he calls his own sheep by name and leads them out. When he has brought out all his own, he goes before them, and the sheep follow him, for they know his voice.”

John 10:27-28 “My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me. I give them eternal life, and they will never perish, and no one will snatch them out of my hand.”

Devotional: In her grief, Mary didn't recognize Jesus until He spoke her name: “Mary.” In that moment, everything changed. The Good Shepherd calls His sheep by name, and they know His voice.

Today, hear Jesus calling your name. He's not calling you “sinner,” “failure,” or “too far gone.” He's calling you by name—personally, intimately, redemptively. When Mary heard her name, she went from weeping to worshiping, from hopeless to commissioned. Jesus then sent her with a message: “Go tell them I am ascending to my Father and your Father.” Because of Easter, God is now YOUR Father. You belong. You're family. The resurrection isn't just historical fact; it's personal invitation. Jesus is calling your name today. Will you respond like Mary: “I have seen the Lord”?

Action Step: Find a quiet place and read John 20:16 slowly. Then close your eyes and imagine Jesus saying your actual name. Sit in silence for a few minutes, simply receiving the truth that He knows you, loves you, and calls you His own.

Daily Prayer: Jesus, thank You that You know me by name. Silence the other voices that call me “not enough,” “unwanted,” or “too broken.” Help me to hear Your voice above them all. Teach me to live as one who is known, loved, and sent by You. Amen.
