Thursday: The Past That Can Be Forgiven

Reading: Romans 5:8 “but God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.”

Isaiah 1:18 ““Come now, let us reason together, says the Lord: though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they are red like crimson, they shall become like wool.”

Psalm 103:10-12 “He does not deal with us according to our sins, nor repay us according to our iniquities. For as high as the heavens are above the earth, so great is his steadfast love toward those who fear him; as far as the east is from the west, so far does he remove our transgressions from us.”

Devotional: “While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” Not after we cleaned up. Not when we deserved it. While we were still covered in our mess, Jesus went to the cross. Every betrayal, every addiction, every abortion, every secret you hope no one discovers—the cross says it was nailed there. The empty tomb declares the debt is paid.

You are not too far gone. Your scarlet sins can become white as snow. God doesn't remove your sins to a nearby location; He removes them “as far as the east is from the west”—infinitely, irretrievably gone. Stop carrying what Christ already carried. Your past does not define your future. His resurrection does.

Song of the Day: Crowder - Forgiven

Action Step: Identify one specific regret from your past that still haunts you. Speak it honestly to God, then read Isaiah 1:18 and Psalm 103:10-12 out loud, inserting that specific sin into your prayer. Choose today to agree with God that it is forgiven and gone.

Daily Prayer: Father, thank You that while I was still a sinner, Christ died for me. You know my past, and You love me still. I bring You my deepest regrets and shame. Wash me clean. Help me to believe that my sins are truly forgiven and removed, and teach me to live as someone set free. Amen.
