Reading: John 20:1-8 “Now on the first day of the week Mary Magdalene came to the tomb early, while it was still dark, and saw that the stone had been taken away from the tomb. So she ran and went to Simon Peter and the other disciple, the one whom Jesus loved, and said to them, “They have taken the Lord out of the tomb, and we do not know where they have laid him.” So Peter went out with the other disciple, and they were going toward the tomb. Both of them were running together, but the other disciple outran Peter and reached the tomb first. And stooping to look in, he saw the linen cloths lying there, but he did not go in. Then Simon Peter came, following him, and went into the tomb. He saw the linen cloths lying there, and the face cloth, which had been on Jesus’ head, not lying with the linen cloths but folded up in a place by itself. Then the other disciple, who had reached the tomb first, also went in, and he saw and believed;”
1 Peter 1:3 “Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! According to his great mercy, he has caused us to be born again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead,”
2 Corinthians 5:17 “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come.”
Devotional: Early that first Easter morning, the women approached the tomb wondering, “Who will roll away the stone for us?” The stone was too heavy, the obstacle too great. But when they arrived, they discovered that God had already done what they could not do. The stone was rolled away, and the grave was empty.
Some of you feel like the stone over your life is too heavy—too much shame, too much doubt, too much damage. Easter is God saying: “Watch Me move stones you cannot move.” The resurrection is not just about a past event or a future hope; it’s about present transformation. In Christ, you are a new creation. The same power that raised Jesus is at work in you today.
You don’t have to clean yourself up first. You come as you are—to a Savior who died for you, rose for you, and calls you by name. He moves the stones of guilt, fear, addiction, bitterness, and despair. Your role is not to move the stone; your role is to come to the tomb and trust the One who already has.
Song of the Day: Passion, Kristian Stanfill - Glorious Day (Live)
Action Step: Identify one “stone” in your life right now—a burden, sin, addiction, fear, or wound that feels immovable. Write it down and then, beneath it, write: “God, I cannot move this stone—but You can.” Share this with a trusted friend or mentor and ask them to pray with you this week.
Daily Prayer: Risen Lord, thank You that the stone was rolled away before anyone arrived at the tomb. I confess that there are stones in my life I cannot move. Today I surrender them to You. Move what I cannot move. Change what I cannot change. Make me new by Your resurrection power, and help me walk in the freedom You have already won. Amen.
