BIG IDEA for the week: Divided people are distracted by the surface.. Devoted people see the heart of the matter.
Scripture of the Day:
"Rehoboam rejected the advice the elders gave him and consulted the young men who had grown up with him and were serving him. He asked them, 'What is your advice? How should we answer these people who say to me, "Lighten the yoke your father put on us"?’” - 1 Kings 12:8-9 (NIV)
Rehoboam’s choice to seek advice from his peers instead of the experienced elders highlights a pivotal mistake: valuing familiarity over wisdom. His preference for echo-chamber validation over genuine insight led to a divided kingdom and further suffering, emphasizing the need for discernment in counsel.
In life, surrounding ourselves with godly wisdom is crucial. The voices we listen to can shape our direction, priorities, and decisions. Seeking advice from those who have walked in faith and wisdom can offer invaluable guidance that aligns with God's will, preventing us from making decisions that divide or mislead us.
Encouragement and correction from wise individuals align us with God’s truth and purpose. Moving away from decisions driven by pride, insecurity, or ignorance, we invite God’s wisdom into our lives, ensuring our actions reflect His love and lead towards unity, rather than division.
Action Step:
Identify trusted, godly individuals who can provide wisdom in your life. Seek their counsel in areas where you need guidance and make a plan to connect regularly.
Prayer:
Lord, surround me with wise people who speak truth into my life. Help me discern and choose counsel that aligns with Your will and leads me closer to you. Amen.
