BIG IDEA: When God gives His Promise, you can bank your life and your afterlife on it.
Scripture: Genesis 2:16-17
"And the Lord God commanded the man, saying, 'You may surely eat of every tree of the garden, but of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat, for in the day that you eat of it you shall surely die.'"
In the beginning, God established the Adamic Covenant, setting the tone for humanity's relationship with Him. This covenant was simple yet profound: life and blessing would flow from obedience to God’s command. Adam and Eve’s choice to eat from the tree marks humanity’s first act of disobedience, leading to sin and the fall. Yet, even in this moment of turning away, God’s overarching plan of redemption began to unfold, with hints of a future promise embedded even in the curse.
Today, we continue to walk in the consequences of that first decision to move away from God’s provision. Yet this covenant also points us back to a foundational truth: God desires relationship with us. His commands are for our good, and within them lie the pathway to life. As we reflect on our own lives, we must ask ourselves where we might be choosing our own way over God's. By realigning with His design, we experience His life-giving presence.
Action Step: Identify one area of your life where you may be choosing your own way over God's direction. Make a conscious effort to realign this area with God's plan.
Prayer Prompt: Ask God for the wisdom to discern areas of disobedience in your life and the strength to return to His path.
Song of the Day: "Trust in You" by Lauren Daigle
BONUS: Chris’ ridiculous The Addam’s Family parody, called From Adam’s Family (get it?), that covers all 6 Biblical Covenants:
“FROM ADAM’S FAMILY”
Adamic Covenant:
It started in the garden, with Adam as the warden
A promise, not just pardon
From Adam’s family
Noahic Covenant:
The floods came down with Noah, a rainbow just to show ya
God’s faithfulness won’t slow-a
In Adam’s family
Abrahamic Covenant:
To Abraham God swore it, the stars and sand adore it
A blessing, don’t ignore it
For Adam’s family
Mosaic Covenant:
From Egypt God did lead them, the mountain He did bring them
His laws would give them freedom
In Adam’s family
Davidic Covenant:
From shepherd boy to throne, God chose Him as His own
David’s heir, our Cornerstone
From Adam’s family
New Covenant/Messianic Covenant:
Through Solomon we’ll see it, But Christ, He will complete
So turn and trust and mean it
With Jesus we will be.
