Scripture from 1 Kings:
1 Kings 20:3-4 (ESV): "Your silver and your gold are mine; your best wives and children also are mine. And the king of Israel answered, ‘As you say, my lord, O king, I am yours, and all that I have.’"
Matthew 6:19-21 (ESV)
"Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal, but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also."
It’s so gross to read how far-off Ahab is with his mind and his spirit. How do you allow your family and your next generation to be taken away without a fight? The answer is that Ahab was full of the Homer Spirit and not the Holy Spirit. He was more concerned about his own life than he was about the lives of 1000’s of others.
His priorities are clearly misplaced, as he readily sells out his wealth and loved ones at the demand of Ben-Hadad. This echoes in Matthew 6:19-21, where Jesus warns against focusing on worldly possessions that perish, urging us instead to prioritize the eternal treasures found in heaven.
Jesus gives us the ultimate example of what we should prioritize first. He demonstrated unwavering devotion to His divine mission of loving God and people over earthly treasures. Through His birth and life, He guides us to seek true fulfillment and treasure in God alone.
Action Step:
Reflect on where you might be placing worldly pursuits above your relationship with God. Consider ways you might reorient your life to prioritize heavenly treasures.
Prayer:
Heavenly Father, help me to keep the main thing the main thing just as Jesus did. Please help me to prioritize You and the people you’ve blessed me with to hold the highest value. And help me to love Your Presence above all the Presents in this season.
Song of the Day:
"O Come, O Come, Emmanuel"
