Reading Time: 3 Minutes
Reading:
Proverbs 4:23
“Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it.”
Luke 6:45
“The good person out of the good treasure of his heart produces good, and the evil person out of his evil treasure produces evil… for out of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaks.”
Devotional:
Your heart is more important than you think. Physically, your heart pumps blood, oxygen, and nutrients through your body every second of every day. If the heart stops functioning properly, everything else begins to suffer.
Scripture says the same is true spiritually.
When the Bible talks about the heart, it’s talking about the center of who you are—your thoughts, emotions, desires, motives, and decisions. Proverbs 4:23 says, “everything you do flows from it.” In other words, your words, attitudes, relationships, and actions are all connected to the condition of your heart.
Jesus said that what comes out of us reveals what’s already inside us. Feelings of anger, bitterness, jealousy, pride, fear, peace, joy, love, all flow from our heart.
We spend a lot of time trying to manage outward behavior, but God wants to deal with the source. He doesn’t just want to modify actions; He wants to transform hearts.
Reflection Questions:
What has been consistently flowing out of your life lately?
What might that reveal about the condition of your heart?
Response:
Spend a few quiet minutes asking God to honestly reveal the condition of your heart. Don’t defend it. Don’t justify it. Just listen.
Pray: “God, show me what’s really happening in my heart.”
