Saturday: A Call to Align Priorities with God’s Will

Scripture from 1 Kings:

1 Kings 21:25-26 (ESV): "There was none who sold himself to do what was evil in the sight of the Lord like Ahab, whom Jezebel his wife incited. He acted very abominably in going after idols, as the Amorites had done, whom the Lord cast out before the people of Israel."

Scripture Passage: Matthew 22:37-39 (ESV)

"And he said to him, ‘You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the great and first commandment. And a second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’"

Ahab was just a bad dude.  There is no sugar coating this.  This passage in Kings literally tells us that he “sold himself.”  No, he didn’t make himself a slave.  But metaphorically he DID make himself a slave.  By putting the PRESENTS above the PRESENCE of God, he was enchained to his own desires and the desires of Jezebel, his wife.  This is NO WAY TO LIVE.  But if we think about it, there are thousands of people walking around every day that have become slaves to their desires instead of becoming a servant of God.

Ahab's choices led him away from God, as seen in his alignment with idolatry under Jezebel's influence. In contrast, Matthew 22 calls us to prioritize loving God and others, aligning our hearts with His will.

Jesus incarnated (brought it to earth) God’s love, perfectly keeping the commandments to love God and neighbor. His life is an invitation to prioritize such love above all else.  What an amazing opportunity that we have!!!!!

Action Step:

Review your current priorities in light of the greatest commandments. Commit to intentionally loving God and others through your actions and decisions.

Prayer:

God, as I look at my life and compare MY priorities to YOUR priorities, I ask that You give me wisdom.  And please be near me as I grow in my love and devotion to You.  In Jesus name, Amen.
