Saturday: Holding Fast for the Long Haul

Reading: 2 Kings 18:5–7 “He trusted in the Lord, the God of Israel, so that there was none like him among all the kings of Judah after him, nor among those who were before him. For he held fast to the Lord. He did not depart from following him, but kept the commandments that the Lord commanded Moses. And the Lord was with him; wherever he went out, he prospered. He rebelled against the king of Assyria and would not serve him.”
Hebrews 10:23 “Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for he who promised is faithful.”
Devotional: Hezekiah’s life shows both moments of bold trust and moments of fearful compromise. Yet Scripture still says he “held fast to the Lord” and that “the Lord was with him.” God isn’t looking for flawless people—He’s looking for faithful people who keep coming back, keep holding on, and keep trusting Him over the long haul. Your faith may have some failures in its story, but that doesn’t disqualify you; it can deepen your dependence. To “hold fast” means to cling, even when emotions, culture, and circumstances pull in the opposite direction.
Reflection: Today, recommit to a long obedience in the same direction. Confess where you’ve wavered, then grab hold of this truth: “He who promised is faithful.” Your grip may be weak at times, but His grip on you never is.
Response: Choose one simple, sustainable spiritual habit (daily Scripture reading, prayer time, weekly worship, community group, etc.). Write down when and how you will practice it this week, and tell one trusted friend so they can encourage you to “hold fast” with consistency.
