SATURDAY: Turning to the Lord, Killing the Sin, Following the Word

Big Idea:

The Remedy to a crumbling soul is revival.  The roadmap to Revival is to Turn to the Lord, Kill the Sin, and Follow the Word.

Reading:

2 Kings 23:25

25 Before him there was no king like him, who turned to the LORD with all his heart and with all his soul and with all his might, according to all the Law of Moses, nor did any like him arise after him.

James 4:7–10

7 Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.8 Draw near to God, and he will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners, and purify your hearts, you double-minded.9 Be wretched and mourn and weep. Let your laughter be turned to mourning and your joy to gloom.10 Humble yourselves before the Lord, and he will exalt you.

Devotional:

Josiah’s life can be summed up in one sentence: he turned to the Lord with all his heart, soul, and might, according to the Law of Moses. That is the roadmap to revival: turn to the Lord, kill the sin, and follow the Word.

James echoes this same call—submit to God, resist the devil, cleanse your hands, purify your heart, humble yourself.

Revival is not just an event or a feeling; it is a posture of continual repentance, surrender, and obedience. Our culture invites us to turn to ourselves, tolerate sin, and follow the shifting standards of the world. God invites us into something far better: a life marked by His presence, His power, and His peace.

The remedy for a crumbling soul is not more self-help—but heartfelt revival.

Reflection:

Use this final day as a moment of honest inventory.

Ask:

  • Where do I need to turn to the Lord instead of turning to myself, my friends, or my coping mechanisms?

  • What specific sin do I need to kill, not manage?

  • In what area of my life do I need to follow the Word instead of my feelings or culture?

Response:

Write a simple prayer of surrender: “Lord, I turn to You. I lay this sin down. I choose Your Word as my standard.” If you’re able, spend a few minutes in quiet, letting the Holy Spirit search your heart.

Revival begins in moments like this—ordinary people humbling themselves before an extraordinary God.
