Big Idea:
The Remedy to a crumbling soul is revival. The roadmap to Revival is to Turn to the Lord, Kill the Sin, and Follow the Word.
Reading:
2 Kings 22:8–13 (ESV)
8 And Hilkiah the high priest said to Shaphan the secretary, “I have found the Book of the Law in the house of the LORD.” And Hilkiah gave the book to Shaphan, and he read it.9 And Shaphan the secretary came to the king, and reported to the king, “Your servants have emptied out the money that was found in the house and have delivered it into the hand of the workmen who have the oversight of the house of the LORD.”10 Then Shaphan the secretary told the king, “Hilkiah the priest has given me a book.” And Shaphan read it before the king.11 When the king heard the words of the Book of the Law, he tore his clothes.12 And the king commanded Hilkiah the priest, and Ahikam the son of Shaphan, and Achbor the son of Micaiah, and Shaphan the secretary, and Asaiah the king’s servant, saying,13 “Go, inquire of the LORD for me, and for the people, and for all Judah, concerning the words of this book that has been found. For great is the wrath of the LORD that is kindled against us, because our fathers have not obeyed the words of this book, to do according to all that is written concerning us.”
Devotional:
For fifty-seven years, God's Word had been lost, neglected, and forgotten in Judah. When it was finally discovered and read, King Josiah tore his clothes in grief, recognizing how far his nation had strayed from God's standard.
How often do we neglect the Bible in our own lives? We turn to Google before we turn to God. We seek therapy before we seek Scripture. We follow cultural trends instead of biblical truth. The Word of God is not just information—it's transformation. It's the standard that determines right from wrong, not feelings or popular opinion.
When was the last time God's Word broke your heart and changed your direction? Commit today to making Scripture central to your life, not peripheral.
Reflection:
Evaluate your “information diet.” What gets more time and emotional weight: news, social media, and opinions—or Scripture?
Response:
Choose a specific, realistic plan to bring God’s Word back to the center. That might be one chapter a day, reading through a Gospel, or memorizing a verse each week. As you read today, ask God, “Show me where my life doesn’t match Your Word,” and be willing—like Josiah—to let conviction lead to repentance and change, not just emotion.
