Embrace the call to serve even when resources seem insufficient.
Scripture Reading: 1 Kings 17:13-14 (NIV)
"Elijah said to her, 'Don't be afraid. Go home and do as you have said. But first make a small loaf of bread for me from what you have and bring it to me, and then make something for yourself and your son. For this is what the Lord, the God of Israel, says: "The jar of flour will not be used up and the jug of oil will not run dry until the day the Lord sends rain on the land."'"
Elijah reassures the widow with a courageous call to action—to serve him first despite her limited resources. This directive challenges her to act out of faith rather than fear, anchoring on the promise of God's unfailing provision. This isn’t merely about sustenance; it’s a divine test of trust and obedience in the face of scarcity.
The assurance that God will multiply her meager supplies instills a significant message—obedience to God yields divine provision. This episode is a testament to the faithfulness of God as He meets our needs when we trust Him with what little we have.
Jesus came not to be served, but to serve, showing that genuine service requires selflessness. The Holy Spirit equips us to serve others beyond our own capacity, confirming that God's provision is sufficient. When we serve despite our lack, we partner with God in powerful ways to meet both our needs and the needs of others.
Action Step:
Consider how you might serve someone else today, even if you feel your resources are limited. Trust God to multiply what you offer in faith.
Prayer:
Lord, as I face the scarcity in my life, grant me the courage to serve others despite what I lack. Help me take bold steps in faith, knowing that every day I choose to invest my time and talents in you, I am investing both in this life and into the life of Your Kingdom. Amen.
