Tuesday: The Debt We Cannot Pay

Reading: Ephesians 1:7 “In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses, according to the riches of his grace,”

1 Peter 1:18-19 “knowing that you were ransomed from the futile ways inherited from your forefathers, not with perishable things such as silver or gold, but with the precious blood of Christ, like that of a lamb without blemish or spot.”

Devotional: From the Garden of Eden forward, blood has been required to cover sin. Ancient families brought lambs to the temple, sacrificing animals to atone for their debts. Imagine owing millions to the IRS with no way to pay—then someone steps forward and clears your entire debt. This is Easter.

Our sin created a debt we could never repay, but Jesus paid it with His blood. Not the blood of animals, but the precious blood of God's own Son. His sacrificial death wasn't just symbolic; it was the actual payment for your spiritual bankruptcy. The riches of His grace cover every lie, every addiction, every secret shame. Your debt is marked “paid in full.”

Action Step: Draw or imagine a “debt statement” before God—everything you feel guilty or ashamed about. Then, physically write the words “PAID IN FULL BY JESUS” across it. If you can, tear it up or throw it away as a symbol of trusting His payment.

Daily Prayer: Jesus, thank You for paying a debt I could never pay. Thank You for shedding Your precious blood for my forgiveness. Help me to believe that my record before You is stamped “paid in full,” and keep me from trying to earn what You have already finished. Amen.
