Reading:
Psalm 139:23-24
“Search me, O God, and know my heart! Try me and know my thoughts! And see if there be any grievous way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting!”
Proverbs 27:19
“As in water face reflects face, so the heart of man reflects the man.”
Devotional:
Physical heart problems usually come with warning signs. Fatigue. Chest pain. Shortness of breath. Irregular heartbeat. Ignoring those symptoms can become dangerous.
Spiritual heart problems work the same way.
Feelings like constant anxiety, anger, jealousy, insecurity, resentment, emptiness, hopelessness, and isolation aren’t always just emotions to manage, they can be indicators that something deeper is happening in our hearts.
Sometimes we try to numb those feelings, distract ourselves, blame others, or simply push through them. But God often uses those moments to reveal areas where we’ve drifted from Him.
David prayed one of the most dangerous but life-changing prayers in Scripture: “Search me, O God, and know my heart.” He invited God to expose what he could not see himself.
God doesn’t reveal these things to shame us. He reveals them to heal us.
Reflection Questions:
What emotions or struggles have been surfacing repeatedly in your life?
Could they be warning signs pointing to deeper spiritual disconnection?
Response:
Instead of ignoring what you’re feeling today, bring it honestly before God.
Write down one emotion you’ve been struggling with lately and ask: “God, what is this revealing about my heart?”
