Reading Time: 3 Minutes
Reading:
Isaiah 53:6
“All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned—every one—to his own way…”
John 15:5
“I am the vine; you are the branches… apart from me you can do nothing.”
Devotional:
Most spiritual drift doesn’t happen all at once.
People usually don’t wake up one day and decide to completely walk away from God. Drift happens slowly, through distraction, compromise, self-reliance, busyness, hurt, or simply neglecting connection with Him.
That pattern shows up throughout Scripture. Israel would experience connection with God, then slowly drift, then chaos would follow. The issue underneath it all wasn’t just behavior—it was disconnection.
Jesus said, “apart from me you can do nothing.” A branch disconnected from the vine may still look alive for a little while, but eventually the fruit disappears because the source has been lost.
The same is true in our lives. When we disconnect from God, the symptoms eventually show up everywhere else.
The good news is this: drift can be corrected before destruction happens. God continually invites us back to Him.
Reflection Questions:
Where have you slowly drifted in your relationship with God?
What has been pulling your attention and affection away from Him?
Response:
Reconnect intentionally today.
Take 15 uninterrupted minutes with God—without multitasking, distractions, or rushing. Open your Bible, pray honestly, and simply sit in His presence.
